In the past two days I have had the amazing good fortune to connect with two inspiring women.  These women are at the top of their respective fields and really inspired me to step up my own game!  The first woman is Florence Ladd, the author of The Spirit of Josephine and several other books.  This amazing lady has been a psychologist, a professor, a college administrator, a novelist and a poet.  She was the director of the Bunting Institute at Radcliffe College for several years and has served on the board of numerous prestigious institutions at Harvard and elsewhere.

I got the opportunity to meet and talk with Florence when we shared the podium at Porter Square Books last night.  I was there to talk about They Raised Me Up and she was there to talk about her latest novel, The Spirit of Josephine.  It turns out this remarkable lady spends half the year in France and half the year in Cambridge.  Her novel is all about black women making art and music in the face of challenging circumstances.  From the first page of her novel, I knew I had found a kindred spirit.

So many times in my life I have felt alone, that no one else would ever "get" my lifestyle, music or creative choices.  I cannot tell you how wonderful it feels to find a kindred spirit, someone who has been where I am trying to go.

In next week's blog, I will write about Nona Hendrix, the second inspiring woman I met this week.  Meanwhile, I will leave you with a link to Florence's Amazon page.  Check her out!
